Biodiversity is the optimum species mix for the ecosystem [#968]
I think that Biodiversity as an objective should be to use conservation management techniques, methods and technology to create the optimum mix of species appropriate to the local ecosystem.

I do not think that maximizing the number of species in any given location is always the appropriate use of the land. Maximising may cause inbalance and disequilibrium. Optimizing species mix is creating the manageable 'best mix' for a given location.
