Name Community Based Management of On-Farm Plant Genetic Resources in Arid and Semi-Arid Areas of Sub-Saharan Africa
Description The objective of the project is to improve the effectiveness of traditional farming systems for conservation of crop landraces of local and global importance. The project is working with communities, including a number of indigenous groups and, through case studies, combines community based indigenous knowledge, the finding of scientific research and past practical experience in an analysis and synthesis of viable farming systems in arid and semi-arid ecosystems in the eight countries involved in the project. The project also looks at how these systems support the conservation of biodiversity of local and global significance.
