CEPA Fair 2010

The CEPA Fair on experiences and best practices (Notification: CEPA Fair 2010) was held in parallel to COP-10 from 18-29th October 2010 in Nagoya, Japan.

The CEPA Fair provides a unique opportunity for Parties and organizations to highlight their work and their contribution to the implementation of the three objectives of the Convention. In keeping with the spirit of the global celebrations of the United Nations Decade on Biodiversity the Secretariat is honored to have the occasion to share with the rest of the world the work of these partners whose work in Communication Education and Public Awareness brings us all one step closer to fulfilling the objectives of the Convention.

The activities presented at the fair represent the foundation upon which future work in support of the Strategic Plan for the Convention will be elaborated.

Thursday 28 October

  • Title: HELCOM - Serving as the focal point for information on Baltic Sea biodiversity
    Organized by: The Secretariat of HELCOM
    Date and Time: Thursday 28 October 10:15am – 11:30am

HELCOM, the intergovernmental organization of the Baltic Sea countries and the EU working for the protection of the Baltic marine environment, will present its communication and public awareness raising activities. The event will feature HELCOM’s latest publications related to conservation and protection of biodiversity. One of the presentations will focus on the release of the initial holistic assessment of the state of the marine environment and HELCOM’s achievement of the goal set by the CBD of protecting 10% of every ecoregion by 2010 – nearly 11% of the Baltic marine area is currently protected by the Baltic Sea Protected Areas network.

  • Title: Biodiversity Conservation in China - China Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP) and CEPA capacity building

    Date and Time: Thursday 28 October 13:15pm – 15:00pm
    Venue: CEPA Fair, First Floor, Building 2 Room 216 A

The side event is organized by the Ministry of Environmental Protection, PRC, and co-organized by Foreign Economic Cooperation Office, MEP. The speakers include government officials and experts in regard to biodiversity, who will introduce the actions China has taken in biodiversity conservation from the perspectives of national policy, local practice and IYB. The presentations will mainly focus on the efforts of China in communication, education and public awareness. It is planned to be 3 reporters, each of whom will stage a 15-minuit speech under the theme of China Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan, The Significance of CEPA to Biodiversity Conservation and the Action of China for the 2010 International Year of Biodiversity--- Awareness Raising in China. After the 3 speeches will be the Q&A session for about 15 minutes.
