The tenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), through paragraph 9(j) of decision X/33, requested the Executive Secretary to compile current and additional views and case studies from Parties on the integration of biodiversity into climate-change-related activities. Pursuant to this decision, these views and case studies will be compiled for submission to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) through reporting on the Nairobi work programme and other relevant means.

Call for Experts on Climate-Related Geo-Engineering as it Relates to the Convention on Biological Diversity
At the tenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), Parties to the CBD adopted decision X/33 which includes a section on climate-related geo-engineering and its impacts on the achievement of the objectives of the CBD. This decision contains actions for both Parties and calls for additional research by the CBD Secretariat. The full text of geo-engineering elements of the decision is available in the annex to this notification.

The present notification is a follow up to notification ref.: SCBD/STTM/JW/ac/74869 (2011-026) sent on 4 February 2011. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has begun preparations for its Fifth Assessment Report (AR5). This report will consist of three Working Group Reports and a Synthesis Report. The Working Group I report will be finalized in 2013; the other volumes in 2014.

Online Dialogue for the Preparation of the Second Meeting of the Second Ad Hoc Technical Expert Group on Biodiversity and Climate Change
The ninth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) convened an Ad Hoc Technical Expert Group (AHTEG) on biodiversity and climate change through its decision IX/16.
Furthermore, the Conference of the Parties, through paragraph 7(b) of annex III to decision IX/16, requested that the Executive Secretary, in preparing documentation for the AHTEG, especially noting the need to ensure scientific credibility and timely information, convenes an ad hoc internet-based discussion group so as to identify major issues related to the items included in the agenda of the second meeting of the AHTEG (see the attached draft agenda).
The second meeting of the AHTEG will address the links between biodiversity, climate change adaptation, and risks and vulnerabilities.
