Online Discussion Forum in preparation for Expert workshop on scientific and technical guidance on the use of biogeographic classification systems and identification of marine areas beyond national jurisdiction in need of protection (Ottawa, Canada, 29 September - 2 October 2009)
At its ninth meeting, the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the Convention decided to convene an expert workshop to provide scientific and technical guidance on the use and further development of biogeographic classification systems, and guidance on the identification of areas beyond the national jurisdiction which meet the scientific criteria in annex I to decision IX/20 (decision IX/20, paragraph 19). Pursuant to this decision, the Secretariat is convening an expert workshop, with the financial support from the Governments of Canada and Germany. It will be held in Ottawa, Canada, from 29 September to 2 October 2009.

The Executive Secretary wishes to invite Parties, other Governments and relevant organizations to kindly provide relevant information concerning the objectives of the above-mentioned expert workshop as well as on the progress towards the 2012 target on representative networks of marine protected areas. The submissions should be sent to the Secretariat (secretariat@cbd.int or fax +1-514-288-6588) at your earliest convenience, but no later than 30 June 2009. Information can be submitted in any format as appropriate.
