I am pleased to convey herewith the composition of the Technical Group of Experts on Liability and Redress in the context of the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety, to be convened pursuant to Decision BS-I/8 of the first meeting of the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Biosafety Protocol (COP-MOP). The group of experts will meet in Montreal, Canada, from 18 to 20 October 2004.

This is a reminder of the Secretariat’s earlier communication dated 7 July 2004 regarding the invitation to make nominations for a Technical Group of Experts on Liability and Redress in the context of the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety (Reference: SCBD/BS/XW/ds/43450). In view of the fact that the nomination period coincided with the holiday season in many countries, it has been decided to extend the deadline for making nominations to 10 September 2004 so as to give all Parties and Governments ample opportunity to nominate experts for the meeting.
