| Lessons Learned |
|
The most important lesson is that there needs to be communication and trust between conservationists, social scientists, the indigenous people, and the authority that is administering the area. The second lesson is that combining the interests of conservation with economic development is a very difficult task. The third lesson is that although the issues may revolve around environmental conservation, the process by which decisions are made is political. The fourth lesson is that any project or programme that tries to bring together conservation and human development must be based on in-depth understanding of the community and be flexible enough to cope with changing social and economic conditions. |
