Global Coral Reef Conservation Project

Since 2005, we have collaborated with research institutes on an array of research designed to preserve coral reefs, in addition to engaging in similar research around the Midway Atoll and Seychelles islands since 2006.

Our efforts have included the following projects:

  • Work with Shizuoka University, Ryukyu University and Kokushikan University to determine the mechanism of coral bleaching;
  • Work with University of California, Santa Cruz at Midway Atoll to survey the local effects of climate change on coral reefs;
  • And working with Essex University researchers to gather data on coral reef biodiversity, as well as the status of mangroves and coral reefs on and around the islands of Seychelles.

These projects are significant as academic research contributing to the preservation of coral reefs, and also because the results are shared with industry, academia and the private sector to promote the importance of protecting the marine environment, including through research reports and symposia.
