The Business and Biodiversity Offsets Program (BBOP) is a partnership between companies, governments, and conservation experts to explore biodiversity offsets. The BBOP demonstrates conservation and livelihood outcomes in a portfolio of biodiversity offset pilot projects; develops, tests, and disseminates best practice on biodiversity offsets, and contributes to policy and corporate developments on biodiversity offsets so that they meet conservation and business objectives.

The Charter is accompanied by an Action Plan that outlines activities identified at the Cairns conference, along with timeframes for their implementation and the organisation responsible for implementation.

CCME is comprised of the environment ministers from the federal, provincial and territorial governments.  These 14 ministers normally meet at least once a year to discuss national environmental priorities and determine work to be carried out under the auspices of CCME.  The Council seeks to achieve positive environmental results, focusing on issues that are national in scope and that require collective attention by a number of governments.

The CSI is a global effort by 24 major cement producers with operations in more than 100 countries who believe there is a strong business case for the pursuit of sustainable development. Collectively these companies account for about one third of the world’s cement production and range in size from very large multinationals to smaller local producers.

The purpose of the Initiative is to:

  • Explore what sustainable development means for the cement industry.
  • Identify actions and facilitate steps cement companies can take, individually and as a group, to accelerate progress toward sustainable development.
  • Provide a framework for other cement companies to become involved.
  • Create the content and context for further stakeholder engagement.

The project removes barriers in banking, business, policy, and legislation to create an enabling environment that can catalyze biodiversity-friendly investments within sectors such as organic agriculture, sustainable forestry, agroforestry, silvopastoral systems, sustainable tourism, aquaculture certified, and sustainable fishery.
