We also recognise the risks that biodiversity loss and ecosystem service degradation present to our business. In response, we have developed our biodiversity strategy and Net Positive Impact (NPI) commitment as Rio Tinto's way of balancing global demand for mineral resources with the need for greater biodiversity conservation. While these can be conflicting in nature, we believe that our NPI model provides one way of balancing these conflicts.
