The Collaborative Partnership on Forests (CPF) has launched the first ever Wangari Maathai Award to honour and commemorate the impact of this extraordinary woman who championed forest issues around the world.
The CBD Secretariat hosted a side event Monday 7 May during WGRI-4 on “Achieving the Aichi Targets and Strategic Plan: Lessons learned from PoWPA Implementation”. Panellists included Axel Benemann (Germany), Thomas Koetz (EU), Alissa Takesy (FSM), Malta Qwathekana (South Africa), Hesiquio Benitez (Mexico), Laurette Rasoavahiny (Madagascar), and Jamison Ervin (UNDP). Exemplary country examples of PoWPA implementation were presented and the recent series of PoWPA capacity building workshops supported by the EU and the Governments of Belgium and the Netherlands, was roundly praised as a useful tool to support country action on the PoWPA
