Preserving water quality in a sustainable manner

Veolia Water, whose mandate is to deliver high quality water to its clients, is actively working with local authorities to protect the site that it depends upon to provide water to the Greater Lyon Urban Community in France. These actions to preserve biodiversity have proved to bring financial benefits to the company, whilst enhancing local biodiversity in the region.

Replenishing groundwater through reforestation in Mexico

Operating in a region in Mexico with high water scarcity risk, Volkswagen decided in 2008 to engage in a multistakeholder reforestation program in the region surrounding its factories to allow the ecosystem’s water provisioning function to be restored.

Forest of Toyota Project

The Forest of Toyota is a company-owned forest on the outskirts of Toyota-city. Of the 76-hectare plot, some 15 hectares are forest that has been maintained as a model of so-called satoyama woodlands since October 1997. A nature guide is stationed on site to support nature study activities and monitor the results of forest maintenance activities.

Animal-Pathway Project in Hokuto-city

This is a research and development project to demonstrate the efficacy of animal pathways
constructed to allow animals to pass across man-made structures, such as roads and railways, that
bisect forests and to help preserve the genetic robustness of small arboreal animals, such as the
Japanese dormouse (a species that is listed as near threatened and registered as a natural monument),
Japanese squirrels and small Japanese field mice, by increasing their access to habitat and removing
obstacles to food and opportunities for reproduction.

Taskforce Biodiversity (Taskforce Biodiversiteit en Natuurlijke hulpbronnen)

This taskforce endeavors to identify specific, operationally focused questions related to the effects of sound generated by the offshore E & P industry on marine life.  It also promotes a research programme for the testing of scientific hypotheses and the production of data needed to address this issue.
