A global dialogue seminar on scaling up finance for biodiversity, co-hosted by the Governments of Ecuador, Sweden, Norway and India together with Japan as the President of the tenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP) of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), was held from 6 to 9 March 2012 in Quito, Ecuador.
The purpose of the dialogue was to facilitate the further elaboration by the Conference of the Parties of the Strategy for Resource Mobilization thereby facilitating implementation of the Strategic Plan and achievement of the Aichi Biodiversity Targets. The dialogue explored opportunities related to an increase in the scale of finance and contributed to building understanding on these issues while seeking to clarify areas of convergence and divergence. The seminar did not draft formal recommendations, but rather sought to enhance understanding among participants. The results of the seminar were presented during the fourth meeting of the Ad Hoc Open-ended Working Group on Review of Implementation of the Convention as document
UNEP/CBD/WG-RI/4/INF/9.
Opportunities for a follow up to the global dialogue on scaling up finance for biodiversity are currently being explored. More information will be provided as it becomes available.
