Assessing the financial resources needed to implement the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020 and achieve the Aichi Biodiversity Targets

As a contribution to the preparations for COP-11 on the Strategy for Resource Mobilization, the Governments of India and the United Kingdom are co-sponsoring an assessment of the financial resources needed to implement the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020 and achieve the Aichi Biodiversity Targets. The assessment will draw upon the work of experts guided by an a regionally-balanced high-level panel.

Accordingly, through Notification XXX-XXX-XXX, Parties, other Governments and relevant organizations are invited to nominate experts to serve on the panel. Nominations should be received by 15 January 2012 and be accompanied by the name and full contact details of the nominee as well as a curriculum vitae detailing her/his area of expertise. Criteria to be taken into account in the selection of panel members include:

  • Familiarity with the Convention and the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020;
  • Expertise in resource mobilization, experience in assessing the costs and economic benefits of biodiversity-related actions, or other relevant experience;
  • High-level experience in governmental, non-governmental organizations, community organizations, academic institutions, or the private sector with a track-record of relevant publications or other experience as appropriate; and
  • Ability to work in English at meetings of the Panel.

The work of the panel will be supported by a number of expert teams who will conduct preliminary assessments of the costs of implementing clusters of the targets. This work will be financially supported by the United Kingdom. Qualified experts or organizations are invited to tender for these activities through the UK Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.
