The CBD Secretariat will co-organize an
International Conference on Biodiversity Conservation in Transboundary Tropical Forests , from 14-17 July, in Quito, Ecuador. The Conference will be organized jointly with IUCN and ITTO, as a contribution to the International Year of Biodiversity.

PowerPoint presentation, which lists examples for the contributions of sustainable forest management (SFM) to the achievement of the goals and targets of the CBD programme of work on forest biodiversity.
Biodiversity and Livelihoods: REDD Benefits
The secretariat has published, jointly with the German Development Cooperation (GTZ), a brochure on
Biodiversity and Livelihoods: REDD Benefits for dissemination at the fifteenth meeting of the Parties to the UNFCCC, 7-18 December 2009 in Copenhagen.
Forest Day 3
The secretariat co-hosted "Forest Day 3," a joint initiative of the Collaborative Partnership on Forests (CPF), during the fifteenth meeting of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, on 13 December 2009 in Copenhagen, which was attended by around 1600 participants, and organized an associated "Learning Event" on the linkages between forest biodiversity and climate change.
REDD & Biodiversity e-Newsletter
In November 2009, the secretariat published the seventh volume of the
REDD & Biodiversity e-Newsletter on linkages between efforts for reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation, and benefits to biodiversity and indigenous and local communities.
Technical Series No. 43: Forest Resilience, Biodiversity, and Climate Change
On 22 October 2009, the secretariat launched
Technical Series No. 43: Forest Resilience, Biodiversity, and Climate Change: A Synthesis of the Biodiversity/Resilience/Stability Relationship in Forest Ecosystems, in response to decision IX/5 3(f).
World Forestry Congress, 18-23 October 2009, Buenos Aires, Argentina
The secretariat participated in the World Forestry Congress, where it provided support to the development of COP Presidency statement at the Congress opening ceremony; submitted the results of the first meeting and a statement from the Bushmeat Liaison Group to the World Forestry Congress; and participated in events of three key partners: the International Model Forest Network; the GEF Secretariat; and the Food and Agriculture Organization.
Liaison Group on Bushmeat, 15-17 October 2009, Buenos Aires, Argentina
The secretariat convened the first meeting of the Liaison Group on Bushmeat, which adopted of a set of policy recommendations for the national and international level to improve the conservation and sustainable use of wildlife-based resources. The meeting report is available

Subregional Capacity-building Workshop on Forest Biodiversity and Climate Change, Singapore City, 2 to 5 September 2009
The Subregional Capacity-building Workshop on Forest Biodiversity and Climate Change for South and South-East Asia was organized by the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), the United Nations Forum on Forests (UNFF) Secretariat, and the National Parks Board of Singapore, with generous financial support from the Government of Germany and the ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity.
