Meeting
Ninth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP 9)

COP8 called for regional workshops to strengthen knowledge sharing and capacity for implementing the Programme of Work on Protected Areas. In response, a series of 9 regional workshops involving over 450 protected area practitioners were delivered in 2007-8. It is clear that a more comprehensive plan of action is required in the remaining years of the PoW to catalyze knowledge and action required. This side event will provide an opportunity for Parties who benefit from these capacity development activities, Donors, WCPA, and support NGOs, to explore opportunities and options for a plan of action, involving a set of regionally-lead catalyzing workshops, technical clinics, and ongoing national exchange, to rapidly advance national implementation of this cross cutting Programme of Work.
