Meeting
Tenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP 10)

Ocean acidification, as a direct consequence of increased carbon dioxide, presents a serious concern for marine and coastal biodiversity and habitats globally. An emerging body of research suggests that the effects of ocean acidification on marine organisms and ecosystems will be variable and complex. In support of discussions under Agenda item 5.2 of COP (SBSTTA 14 recommendation XIV/3), this side event will provide key messages and information on the science of ocean acidification, observed and predicted impacts on marine and coastal biodiversity, and meaningful response options for policy makers. A facilitated discussion will help parties to contextualise how emerging ocean acidification science can be used to inform and guide national and local strategies and action plans. This event will be co-convened by the CBD Secretariat and will include presentations from leading international researchers and practitioners.
