Meeting
Tenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP 10)

Biodiversity in China is under immense pressure. Loss of biodiversity is much worse than previously expected due to the cumulative impact of human disturbance and climate change. To achieve sustainable development and tackle climate change, biodiversity and carbon are vital for policy forming of local governments. It is critical to explore co-benefits of biodiversity conservation, carbon management and human well-being. Supported by the Ministry of Environmental Protection of the People's Republic of China, Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Science (CRAES) together with Deutsche Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ) GmbH currently implements related cooperation projects. This event will present the pressures, challenges and opportunities of biodiversity conservation and carbon management at local level in China. Case studies in pilot regions will demonstrate the importance of scientific evidence and highlight the necessity of capacity development of local administrative counterparts for formulation and implementation of climate proof biodiversity conservation strategies.
