This side event aims at sharing the efforts of the Mediterranean region under the aegis of UNEP/MAP in making the Millenium Development Goals with regard to the protection of biodiversity and the creation of marine protected areas a reality in the Mediterranean region. 60 min event, including: - introduction on the vision and strategy of MAP (Maria Luisa SILVA MEJIAS, UNEP/MAP Officer-in-charge - Presentation of the regional working programme for the Coastal and MArine Protected areas in the Mediterranean (Adberrahmen GANNOUN, SPA/RAC Director) - Towards a better governance in the Mediterranean (IUCN-Med representative) MedPAN South project: to enhance the management and effectiveness of new MPAs (WWF MedPO representative) - general discussion with contribution of other partners (ACCOBAMS, FAO, MedPAN)
