Meeting
Tenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP 10)

Sacred Natural Sites are considered nodes of biological and cultural diversity that form a global, physical as well as a social conservation network which is currently unrecognized, underfunded and under threat. While launching the book “Sacred Natural Sites; Conserving Nature and Culture” this session will show how sacred natural sites make structured contribution to conserving biological diversity, the CBD PoW on Protected Areas (including ICCA’s) and communities endogenous development. Based on examples from different cultures this session will show how sacred natural sites guide the development of sustainable human-nature relationships in many cultures the world over. This process of endogenous development also results into new models for community based adaptation and thus an improved resilience of socio-ecological systems in the face of climate change, poverty and biodiversity loss.
