This side event will explore how to achieve enhanced implementation of the programme of work on mountain biological diversity by first identifying the constraints and challenges and then providing innovative examples and cases from governments, civil society, IGOs and the private sector which have led to effective results. The event will also demonstrate the importance of working in close collaboration through new partnerships and will highlight the role and importance of the Mountain Partnership as an effective mechanism to: • Share information, experiences and results among Parties and other stakeholders • Facilitate capacity building for the conservation and sustainable use of mountain biodiversity; • Develop more meaningful linkages between upstream and downstream populations • Provide a platform for more effective lobbying and advocacy for mountain biodiversity • Facilitate the development of regional strategies and programmes for mountain biodiversity • Help to establish new networks between mountain regions and regional processes to better share information and learn from experiences in other areas.
