n the Japanese Archipelago, people in coastal and mountainous areas live on land marked by severe geological morphology, geology and climate. They have held on to traditional wisdom about nature while introducing modern technologies in adapting to these severe environments. The Chubu Region of central Japan in particular has developed various traditional and modern ways in disaster prevention and environmental preservation to manage earth flows. There must be countries with similar features of geological tectonics around the world; we can learn useful adaptations to climate change from the Chubu region’s experiences, and share this wisdom with the future.
