This workshop will present experiences and lessons learned from a variety of existing initiatives and activities related to the use of Biocultural Protocols for indigenous knowledge, access and benefit-sharing and related inter-cultural awareness-raising activities in the Andean region. Case studies will discuss why Biocultural Protocols are critical for, and how can effectively facilitate, the implementation of the international regime on access and benefit-sharing and create appropriate intercultural processes and measures for raising awareness of the importance of genetic resources and traditional knowledge associated with genetic resources, and related access and benefit-sharing issues.
