Meeting
Fifteenth meeting of the Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice
COP 10's decision on geoengineering has provoked an overdue international discussion on the impacts on climate techno-fixes for biodiversity. While it is now broadly recognized that the protection of biodiversity is key to fostering more climate resilience, geoengineers propose large-scale technological approaches to "improve" existing ecosystems -- altering the composition of the soils, seas and skies so that the Planet can tolerate higher levels of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. This session will explore the impacts and provide background and context to governments considering the papers on geoengineering that have been forwarded by the Secretariat.
