Organizer
World Ocean Council

Date and Time
1 May 2012 18:15 - 19:45

Meeting
Sixteenth meeting of the Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice

The role of the industry is critical to marine biodiversity. The ocean supports a wide range of uses - shipping, ports, fisheries, oil and gas, aquaculture, renewable energy, mining, tourism, desalination, dredging, etc. Maintaining ocean health and sustaining marine biodiversity requires responsible use and stewardship by the diverse ocean business community. This side event will address the role of private sector leadership and collaboration in addressing marine biodiversity challenges - and the need for proactive, constructive engagement of the conservation community and business community in CBD developments. The World Ocean Council is the international, cross-sectoral industry leadership alliance on ocean sustainability.
