Meeting
Eleventh meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP 11)

This session presents key aspect concerning how to effectively implement ecosystem restoration/rehabilitation in technological and social approaches at local level. Excessive exploitation of agricultural, forest and aquatic products, and expanding abandoned cultivated land, as well as natural disasters have been some of the factors to cause many irreversible degraded lands. Rehabilitation of these degraded lands is essential for retaining agricultural, forest and marine productivities, and resilience potential to natural disasters. Therefore we would like to share our experiences in a number of restoration/rehabilitation projects carried out both with successful and unsuccessful outcomes for the future implementations. With these lessons learned, this session discusses concrete suggestions for long-term participatory ecosystem management for sustainable development particular in developing areas.
