Meeting
Eleventh meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP 11)

The event discuss relevant actions needed for delivery of three relevant Targets of the Global Strategy for Plant Conservation (GSPC), viz. Targets 11, 12 and 13. Delivery on these Targets by Parties contributes to fulfilling the Aichi Targets commitments (for Targets 4, 6 and 18) and the Nagoya Protocol. Beyond CBD, Target 11 of GSPC supports the delivery of Parties on the commitments under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) related to the trade in plant species. Speakers will present their assessments of the overall status of the delivery on Targets 11, 12 and 13 globally, highlighting achievements and gaps to date through case studies at the global, regional, national or local levels. Participants will be encouraged to discuss potential ways that governments can increase their delivery on the Sustainable Use objective of GSPC, and how various organisations, including private sector, and the members of Global Partnership for Plant Conservation may play role in contributing to the delivery. The side-event will seek practical suggestions and recommendations about priority areas, where NGOs, development and conservation organizations, governments, communities and private sector, need to focus their attention as the implemention of GSPC 2011-2020 is rolled out. Particular topics of presentations will include: 1. Update and case-studies on the delivery of Target 11 (No species of wild flora endangered by international trade) 2. Update and case-studies on the delivery of Target 12 ( All wild harvested plant-based products sourced sustainably) 3. Update case-studies on the delivery of Target 13 (Indigenous and local knowledge innovations and practices associated with plant resources maintained or increased, as appropriate, to support customary use, sustainable livelihoods, local food security and health care). The event welcomes the participation of government agencies, private companies, IPLC, NGOs.
