Seventeenth meeting of the Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice

Following CBD's Secretariat call for Aichi Target Champions, a group of organizations working on species conservation has established the “Friends of Target 12” partnership which goal is to support CBD parties to meet Aichi Biodiversity Target 12. This side event, organised by BirdLife International, The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), and the Ministry of Environment of Brazil on behalf of Friends of Target 12 partnership, will feature presentations from CBD parties, including a representative from the Ministry of Environment of Brazil. Speakers will share their experiences in implementing target 12 including actions needed, challenges faced, and economic and social benefits of achieving it. Target 12 is central to achieve the CBD's goals as it includes preventing threatened species extinctions and improving and sustaining populations over time. Meeting Target 12 will not only be beneficial for biodiversity but will also result in social and economic benefits for parties.
