Meeting
Seventh Ordinary Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP 7)

The Energy and Biodiversity Initiative (EBI) is a consortium of 9 conservation organizations and companies (BP, ChevronTexaco, Conservation International, Fauna & Flora International, Shell, Smithsonian Institution, Statoil, The Nature Conservancy, and IUCN - The World Conservation Union). We have recently published a set of tools and guidelines for integrating biodiversity considerations into oil & gas development, and are now embarking on a second phase of work, involving outreach to a number of key constituencies for their feedback and uptake. Governments and the conservation community are two of these important stakeholder groups, and having a venue to present the EBI materials and initiate dialogue amongst these groups would be extremely valuable. It would also present a good opportunity to involve the private sector and harness the power of the energy industry to achieve the objectives of the CBD.
