Augusto Carneiro Institute - Divers for Sharks

Date and Time
8 October 2014 18:15 - 19:45

Meeting
Twelfth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity

Throughout the world, non-extractive uses of biodiversity such as Ecotourism, diving and the like generate billions of dollars in revenues and provide millions of direct and indirect jobs, a significant amount of which in developing countries. However, the non-extractive businesses have very rarely been taken into account by treaties dealing with natural resource management, and very seldom are represented at treay meetings while lobbies for extractive industries are always present and heard. We intend to have an open discussion of this issue and launch the Non-Extrative Businesses Declaration to International Treaties on Biodiversity and Natural Resources Management at the event, presenting it first-hand to the CBD Executive Secretary.
