Meeting
Twelfth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity

The growing internationalization of the economy is responsible for the effects that domestic decisions have beyond any political or administrative boundaries. That applies not only to States and unions of States such as the European Union, but also to subnational and local governments. In the context of the accelerated loss of global biodiversity at all levels that has been experienced over the last years, this side-event aims to discuss the need to include external responsibility criteria in governmental measures and actions as well as to use the link local-subnational-national-regional-global governance, all to halting the global loss of biodiversity. The side-event will present case studies at different governmental levels and will show the importance of territorial cooperation in tackling biodiversity loss. Technical experts with substantial expertise will bring-in different case studies that may be replicated in other territories of the world. The side-event will be led by the Government of Catalonia in accordance to the commitments of the Work Plan 2013-2015 of the Advisory Committee of Subnational Governments of the Global Partnership on Local and Subnational Action for Biodiversity in the CBD
