Since 2011, a wide-ranging discussion of the Aichi Targets for Biodiversity 2011-2020 has mobilized about 280 Brazilian organizations. By this process, Brazil formulated a proposal to adapt the Aichi goals to the national reality.This process was named "Dialogues for Biodiversity". The Brazilian Biodiversity Plan contains the corresponding 20 national biodiversity targets to be met by 2020, as well as the principles for their internalization and implementation. For goals to be achieved, it is critical that the public and private sectors, and the various segments of Brazilian society are involved. In this sense, this side event will discuss the advances regarding to the definition and implementation of Brazilian biodiversity targets and the key challenges faced in this process. We will also explore the key recommendations regarding the implementation of the CBD and the participation of the business sector in biodiversity conservation in Brazil. Furthermore, best practices involving the private sector will be presented, serving as an examples to be replicated nationally and internationally. The main objective of the event is to expose the Brazilian business sector contributions to the achievement and the fulfillment of the National Biodiversity Targets, addressing the challenges and opportunities that this topic presents to the business sector around the world. The Brazilian Business Council for Sustainable Development (CEBDS) and its associate companies will have the opportunity to demonstrate during the UN Conference the importance of adopting commitments and mobilizing society in order to promote actions that encourage a positive impact on biodiversity and ecosystems, as well as contributing to the objectives of the CBD. In the end of the event, it will be launched the publication “2020 Biodiversity Goals – Role and Action by the Brazilian private sector”.
