Meeting
Twelfth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity

Building Nagoya Protocol-compliant legal frameworks is a key step in national implementation. No one-size-fits-all solution exists, but valuable lessons can be learned from past country experiences with implementing and updating ABS legal frameworks. Experience has shown that legal frameworks will need to be built up through adaptive, learning-by-doing processes. Country-tailored legal advice and national legal advisors will be vital for success. IDLO and the ABS Capacity Development Initiative invite COP 12 delegates to learn about a new program that is building up the knowledge, capacity and global networks of national lawyers to advise their own governments to implement the Nagoya Protocol. The event will also feature a moderated discussion with delegates from Namibia, Peru and other countries to learn from their experiences with updating national legal frameworks to comply with the Nagoya Protocol.
