Abstract Based on the Democratic Republic of the Congo's voluntary commitment to turn 15% of the country into protected areas (different categories) and to thus double the existing area size under protection, a platform for planning, designating and improving the comprehensive country-wide network of protected areas is to be established together with the stakeholders concerned.
