| Abstract |
The establishment of three new protected areas and the expansion of an existing one (in total 536,000 ha) and effective fire management in the existing and new protected areas contribute to the protection of large-scale boreal forests. This will also help to stem the expected climate change-induced increase in forest fires. At the same time, alternative income opportunities and sustainable usage methods will open up for local communities. |
