Abstract
The Cap Blanc peninsula harbors the world’s last Mediterranean monk seal colony and constitutes an important bird migration passage. The project aims to strengthen protected areas that are key for conservation of the Mediterranean Monk Seal and other emblematic species of Mauritania, through environmental education and increased support for management and monitoring.
Objective
1) Improve the management and monitoring system for the Cap Blanc Satellite Reserve. 2) Improve knowledge and monitoring of emblematic threatened species of Banc d’Arguin National Park, the satellite Reserve of Cap Blanc, and adjacent zones (Mediterranean monk seal and the Dorcas Gazelle). 3)Inform certain target groups in Nouadhibou of the importance of protected areas to preserve and sustainably use natural resources.
