It is no fortuitous matter that the School does inherit the glory of direct descendence from the Young Scientists Association; a forum raised back in 1964 under inspiration and patronage of a genius of no less stature that late Professor Satyendra Nath Bose. Having to transcend the sphere of its early mission to inspire the spirit of inquiry among students at school and college levels, the School’s activity has of necessity ramified into spheres of sustained campaigns for environmental awareness at the grassroots level, carrying out field programmes with indigenous technologies for eco-development in backward districts, micro-planning for watershed management and wasteland development, manpower development through conduct of training camps, rendering services as a resource centre, innovating techniques for software development, so forth. The School has been continuing to perform in the capacity of Regional Resource Agency for National Environmental Awareness Campaign Program, Government of India, since 1989-90. Starting virtually from a scratch financially, this organisation has weathered days of turbulence with whatever resources its members and well-wishers could contribute to sustain it financially, intellectually, physically. No few accolades it has received in recognition of its activities over the years.
