What is an enabling environment for the transfer of technology?
An enabling environment for the transfer of appropriate technology means that there are mechanisms in place between protected areas within a country, and also between protected areas across countries, to identify and share appropriate technologies, to share their use and limitations, and to share lessons learned from their applications. Such mechanisms could include partnerships between GIS companies and protected area agencies, national research referendums using appropriate technologies, awards programs for creative use of appropriate technologies, and an internet interface that promotes sharing of lessons learned within and across protected area systems.
