United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)

UNESCO has 195 Members and eight Associate Members. It is governed by the General Conference and the Executive Board. The Secretariat, headed by the Director-General, implements the decisions of these two bodies. The Organization has more than 50 field offices around the world. Its headquarters are located in Paris, France. UNESCO is engaged in the implementation of several Aichi Biodiversity Targets by means of execution of its mission to promote the application of education, science and culture for the purpose of designing and maintaining peaceful societies. UNESCO contributes to Target 1, on raising awareness of biodiversity values, mainly through UNESCO's work in relation to biodiversity communication and education; and through UNESCO's participation in IPBES' expert work on conceptualization of values of biodiversity and ecosystem services.
