Global Environment Facility

General: The Global Environment Facility is the financial mechanism of the Convention on Biological Diversity and as such has supported the implementation of the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity, 2011-2020 and the Aichi Targets since their inception. The GEF-6 biodiversity strategy addresses all of the Aichi Targets, both directly and indirectly. In addition, significant elements of GEF's support to countries in the areas of international waters, sustainable land management, sustainable forest management, adaptation, and chemicals and waste management, as well as the Integrated Approach Pilot on Taking Deforestation out of Commodity Supply Chains, also contribute to the achievement of the Aichi Targets.
