ITTO is an intergovernmental organization promoting the conservation and sustainable management, use and trade of tropical forest resources. ITTO develops internationally agreed policy documents to promote sustainable forest management and forest conservation and assists tropical member countries to adapt such policies to local circumstances and to implement them in the field through projects. The Joint ITTO-CBD Collaborative Initiative for Tropical Forest Biodiversity was formed to strengthen cooperation for the common objectives of conserving and sustainably managing tropical forest resources. The overall objective of the Initiative is to enhance biodiversity conservation in tropical forests with the direct participation of local stakeholders to address the main drivers of deforestation and forest degradation.
