The Instituto Nacional de Biodiversidad, ascribed to the Ministerio del Ambiente of Ecuador, is a legal entity of public law, with functional, administrative, financial and budgetary independence and national jurisdiction. It is the public entity in charge of planning, promoting, coordinating and conducting research in areas related to biodiversity, aimed towards the conservation and rational usage of this resource and strategic sector, in accordance with existing environmental policies and the applicable legal regulations.
