The Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity, in its decision XIII/29, requested the Executive Secretary, in collaboration with Parties, other Governments and indigenous peoples and local communities and relevant partners, to prepare a second edition of the Local Biodiversity Outlooks: Indigenous Peoples’ and Local Communities’ Contributions to the Implementation of the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020 (LBO-2).

The LBO-2 complements the fifth edition of the Global Biodiversity Outlook by providing many local initiatives being led by indigenous peoples and local communities that contribute significantly to the successful implementation of the goals and targets of the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020. The report also outlines indigenous peoples and local communities’ aspirations and ambitions for the new global framework for biodiversity.

The event will include remarks by the Executive Secretary, statements from the leading authors of LBO-2, representatives of the International Indigenous Forum on Biodiversity, as well as brief presentations of local cases featured in the LBO-2.

Parties and observers will be invited to attend the session. Panelists will welcome questions.  Interpretation will be provided in Spanish and Russian.
