Please note that a notification regarding accreditation, as well as the provisional agendas for both meetings are available on the Secretariat’s website at: http://www.biodiv.org/meetings/. In accordance with rules 6 and 7 of the Rules of Procedure for meetings of the Conference of the Parties, the meeting is open to any body or agency, whether governmental of non-governmental, qualified in fields relating to the conservation and sustainable use of biological diversity, which has informed the Secretariat of its wish to be represented at the meeting. The Executive Secretary would like to inform Parties and participants to the Eighth Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity, which will be held in Curitiba, Brazil, from 20 to 31 March 2006, that in order to facilitate the preparatory work of Parties and delegates, the documents for the meeting have been made available on the Secretariat website, as advance unedited versions. The documents can be downloaded from the following link: http://www.biodiv.org/meetings/. The final edited versions of the pre-session documents will be made available six weeks in advance of the meeting.

I have the pleasure to inform you that, pursuant to recommendation 1/4, paragraph 8 (d) of the first meeting of the Ad Hoc Open-Ended Working Group on Protected Areas, I plan to convene an expert workshop on protected areas on 17 and 18 March 2006 in Curitiba, Brazil, prior to the eighth meeting of the Conference of Parties, with financial support from the European Union. The main purpose of the workshop is to pre-view the possible elements of the programme of work on protected areas for review by COP 8. The workshop will also review the evaluation matrix contained in Annex II to recommendation 1/4, pursuant to para 8 (b) of the same recommendation. The provisional agenda for the workshop is annexed to this notification. Other meeting documents will be forwarded to the selected experts and posted on the CBD website in due course. The workshop will be conducted in English. The report of the workshop will be submitted to COP 8 as an information document.
