The Role of Biodiversity in Climate Change Mitigation in Latin America
ROBIN is a new research project on "The Role of Biodiversity in Climate Change Mitigation in Latin America". It will inform the implementation of REDD+ by identifying options for using  biodiversity and ecosystems for climate change mitigation in multi-functional forest landscapes,  taking into account trade-offs with other ecosystem services. The research will be done by an inter-disciplinary team from Latin America and Europe using a combination of field-data, remote sensing, participatory approaches, integrated modelling and assessments at local and regional scales. For more information, contact: Dr Terry Parr, ROBIN Co-ordinator, twp@ceh.ac.uk; or refer to page 137 of the FP7 project catalogue.

Intact forest landscapes: why it is crucial to protect them from industrial exploitation by Greenpeace Research Laboratories, Tech note 5/2011
Intact Forest Landscapes (IFLs) are blocks of unroaded forest (>500 km2) untouched by commercial logging or farming. IFLs are irreplaceable and essential for the Earth’s climate, biodiversity and people. Greenpeace has released a new report compiling the fragmentation impacts of roads and logging on IFLs, and detailing how protection of these intact forests (e.g. under REDD) can be made meaningful through participatory land-use planning.
