The Ministry of the Environment of Japan (MOEJ), the United Nations University Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-IAS) and the Global Environmental Outreach Centre (GEOC) will organize a public symposium entitled: Connecting and Supporting Forests, the Countryside, Rivers and the Sea to celebrate the UN International Day for Biological Diversity (IDB).   Symposium on Conservation and Utilization of Biodiversity in the Kyushu-Okinawa Region
The Kyushu–Okinawa region (44,500 km sq in land area) in southwestern Japan is a key area in East Asia, with a high level of biodiversity including many endemic species of plants and animals in the forests and grasslands. However, biodiversity in this region has suffered continuous human impact due to high population density over thousands of years (330 people/km sq.; 14.5 million people in 2014). Read more ->
