The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (SCBD) hosted a briefing for the Parliament of Botswana on 22 March 2011, highlighting the role parliamentarians should play in national and global biodiversity management, specifically in regard to the outcomes of the Nagoya Biodiversity Summit, held in October 2010. United Nations Decade on Biodiversity - Living in harmony with nature into the future
The United Nations General Assembly at its 65th session declared the period 2011-2020 to be “the United Nations Decade on Biodiversity, with a view to contributing to the implementation of the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity for the period 2011-2020” (Resolution 65/161)
The UN Decade on Biodiversity
will serve to support and promote implementation of the objectives of the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity and the Aichi Biodiversity Targets. It’s goal is to mainstream biodiversity. Throughout the UN Decade on Biodiversity, governments are encouraged to develop, implement and communicate the results of national strategies for implementation of the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity.
