Funding for Preparing the Third Edition of the Global Biodiversity Outlook

As you recall, the Conference of the Parties, in its Decision VIII/14, paragraph 11, decided that the third edition of the Global Biodiversity Outlook shall be prepared for publication at its tenth meeting in 2010.

The fourth Global Environment Outlook (GEO-4) assessment report is being launched by UNEP on 25 October. GEO-4 addresses the key challenges facing our planet, including the loss of biodiversity, that require policy attention and makes recommendations for decision-makers to act. The Executive Secretary has provided a message welcoming the culmination of this important work.

I am pleased to inform you that the first draft of GBO-3 has now been prepared and invite you to participate in the peer review. The draft for peer review can be accessed at: www.cbd.int/gbo3review and is open until 1 October 2009.

The first draft of Global Biodiversity Outlook 3 is now available for peer review until 1 October 2009. Reviewers encountering difficulty in accessing the document can request that an electronic copy be sent to them directly by sending an email to GBO3@cbd.int.
