Worldwide meat production has tripled over the last four decades, rising by 20 per cent in the last decade. According to the United Nations (UN) Food and Agriculture Organisation, worldwide consumption of meat increased from 23 kilograms to 42 kilograms per-capita between 1961 and 2009.
