Optimism grows for a climate deal at UN’s Paris summit

The mood extended to the science on Monday, with news of a probable fall in global carbon dioxide emissions from fossil fuels in 2015 – for the first time in the absence of economic recession. This is thanks to one-time climate bad-boy China shutting so many coal plants that its emissions fell almost 4 per cent.
